Avila Valley Barn

Spend a perfect Fall afternoon selecting fresh produce, homemade baked goods, and picking the best pumpkin. Located in San Luis Obispo, CA.

The Avila Valley Barn might be my favorite place on the Central Coast as I reminisce of my childhood - spending countless school field trips riding the hay filled tractor to pick apples, pumpkins, and learning about the different farm animals.

As an adult, I have a new appreciation for this hometown treasure that is located less than three miles from Avila Beach. The farm has been open and operating since 1985 and has been bringing smiles too many faces ever since. It's a great place to get away for an afternoon to enjoy time with friends and loved ones by feeding the goats, eating fresh roasted corn, riding the ponies, going for a hay ride, or to indulge in some of their delicious house made fudge or ice cream.

This family fun destination is not only fun and educational for children, it has a special place in the hearts of adults as well. It's a place where you come to unwind, sit on the front porch with homemade ice cream in a cone, and get to let your inner child spirit run free. October is by far my favorite time of year to visit the barn - the weather is sunny and 75, the pumpkins of all different colors are ready to be picked, and the fresh baked goods include pumpkin loaves and apple pie!

Take a buddy and attempt to escape the hay maze, try not to get turned around!

If you find yourself driving along the 101, take a pit stop this Fall to the Avila Valley Barn and try my three favorite treats: homemade oatmeal chocolate chip ice cream, a pumpkin muffin, and zucchini muffin. Let me know if they became your favorites too!

xo,

Jamie Rae
